Phenomena est une recherche sur la matérialisation des phénomènes aérospatiaux. Qu’ils soient issus de conséquences physico-chimiques dans l’atmosphère, de conséquences optiques ou d’observations des mythiques “OVNI“, ils empreintent le ciel d’une image qui peut être captée, racontée… L’humanité, de la préhistoire à nos jours, a entretenue dans son paradigme de croyance, le mythe de ces phénomènes, leur causalité, leur origine.

Les modèles IA, ici “Stable Diffusion“ sont entrainés de milliards d’images issus du meta data sans distinction, qui sont répertoriées par des click worker, des robots (moissonnage des données) et par l’ensemble des utilisateurs du web. Ces modèles entrainés constituent d’une certaine manière “une mémoire de l’humanité“ issue des images qu’elle produit, qui prennent la forme de possibilités statistiques dans l’espace latent des modèles.

J’ai souhaité dans cette recherche avec “Stable Diffusion“, jouer la fabrication d’images à partir de prompts comprenant un ensemble de termes liés aux phénomènes aérospatiaux, à leurs origines, à leurs sources, à leur histoire. Il en ressort des images, minimalistes, ambiguës mêlant de manière indistincte l’origine de ses phénomènes et laissant ouverte leur causalité, leur interprétation, leur mythe. J’ai par la suite sélectionné un ensemble d’images sous forme d’une typologie en construction.

Phenomena is an investigation into the materialization of aerospace phenomena. Whether they result from physico-chemical consequences in the atmosphere, optical consequences or observations of mythical “UFOs”, they imprint the sky with an image that can be captured, told… Humanity, from prehistory to the present day, has maintained in its belief paradigm the myth of these phenomena, their causality, their origin.

The AI models, in this case “Stable Diffusion”, are trained on billions of indiscriminate metadata images, indexed by click workers, robots (data harvesting) and all web users. These trained models constitute, in a way, “a memory of humanity” derived from the images it produces, which take the form of statistical possibilities in the latent space of models.

With “Stable Diffusion”, I wanted to play with the fabrication of images from prompts containing a set of terms linked to aerospace phenomena, their origins, their sources and their history. The result is minimalist, ambiguous images that indistinctly combine the origins of these phenomena, leaving open their causality, their interpretation, their myth. I then selected a set of images in the form of a typology under construction.
